Carnival Unveils First Roller Coaster at Sea… Would You Ride It?

Over the past decade or so, there’s been an “arms race” when it comes to activities on a ship. These days, it’s a constant battle to see who can produce the most fun on board.

That competition has led to some amazing innovations on cruise ships. From massive waterslides to ice skating to rock walls to go-kart tracks, you can do just about anything on a ship. But there’s always room to push the bar higher and Carnival just announced exactly that.

The Carnival Mardi Gras — the cruise line’s massive new ship that’s under construction — will include the first-ever roller coaster at sea.

Take a look at the video the company just released:

All told, the roller coaster — dubbed “Bolt” — has some impressive numbers. It will have nearly 800 feet of track and rise nearly 200 feet above the sea. Carnival says that the ride will be able to reach speeds of up to almost 40 miles per hour.

It’s certainly a ground-breaking announcement and sure to make the new Mardi Gras stand out from other cruise ships. Obviously a roller coaster atop a cruise ship isn’t for everyone, so we have to ask… would you ride it?
