Wild Video Shows Man Attempting to Climb a Cruise Ship Via Ropes

That’s one way of getting on the ship we’ve never seen anyone try before…

A man in Australia was captured on video climbing up mooring lines like these toward the cruise ship. Video below.

Earlier this month, a man was arrested after climbing up the mooring lines of a cruise ship docked in Sydney, Australia. While mooring lines have large circular discs designed to keep rodents from running up the lines and to the ship (known more commonly as rat guards), they seem to be no match for a person wanting to give it a try.

The video shows the man scaling up the rope at the bow of the ship while upside down. According to Sky News, the ship is Carnival Adventure and at times you can make out the last few letters of the ship’s name on its bow. In the background you can even see the famous Sydney Opera House. Take a look:

As the video zooms in, you can see the man is climbing the rope wearing flip-flops and a hoodie. At one point he hangs precariously between the two lines with one foot standing on a lower rope and the other draped up and over a second one.

But the man didn’t get too far. When he is about halfway to the ship, a New South Wales police boat is on the scene. And in a move of quick thinking, the rope is slacked off, taking the man gently down toward the waiting officers.

According to Sky News, the man is 29 years old and had been charged with “entering a cleared zone without being screened and cleared, entering a land-side restricted zone without authorisation, and entering a water-side restricted zone without authorisation.”

We can safely say that while we’ve seen videos of people climbing ship railings, getting in altercations on a cruise ship, and even fishing off the side of a ship, we’ve never seen anything quite like this.
