Looking for a last-minute Christmas gift? How about a cruise? And the cost to you could be free.
Holland America has announced a big new sale. Called “Buy One, Gift One,” this deal gifts passengers a free cruise cabin with the purchase of another cabin at the regular price.
“To help spread holiday cheer, Holland America Line is offering a free second stateroom with cruise bookings – a huge cruise value and rarity in the industry, and a promotion that has never been offered by the premium cruise line,” the company said in a statement.
Of course, there are details to know. First, the sale begins on December 17 and runs only for a limited time — until January 5, 2021. It applies to select 2021 cruises for Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe.
And not every cabin is eligible for the offer. To take part in the deal, you must book a verandah (the name for a balcony cabin on Holland America Line) or suite. If your cruise is included in the deal, then you’ll also get a free interior stateroom.
The free stateroom is for single or double occupancy. So, for example, a family of four could book a verandah cabin and get an interior room for free, giving more space to everyone. Or a couple could book one cabin and bring along another couple for free. One thing to note is that the cabin is for the same departure. So you can’t book a balcony cabin, and then later sail another cruise in the interior room.
And while the interior cabin is included with your booking, taxes, port fees and gratuities will be added on. In other words, there will be some more money out of pocket.
Even so, the savings could be significant.
How Much This Deal Could Save You
So how much can you actually save?
We priced a 7-day Alaskan cruise that departs August 1, 2021 from Seattle aboard the Oosterdam. As of now, pricing for a couple sailing in a verandah cabin would run a total of $3,628. That includes $530 in taxes, fees, and port expenses.
In addition, we also priced an interior cabin on the same cruise. Keep in mind the sale isn’t available just yet, so it’s not clear which select cruises will offer this “Buy One, Gift One” deal. Even so, it’s clear that the savings will be significant.
Backing out the $530 in taxes and fees, the interior cabin for two passengers on this sailing is $2,298. So you would save more than two grand.
It’s yet to be seen which cruises will offer the deal or if the prices of cabins will change once the deal is active. That said, it looks to possibly save passengers thousands of dollars.
