Virgin Voyages Opens for Bookings February 14, Plus Will Build a New Terminal

There’s big news for those anticipating the launch of the new Virgin Voyages cruise line. The company has announced an opening date for bookings, plus released renderings and details of a brand new terminal it plans to construct in Miami.

We’ve discussed Virgin Voyages before, and how the cruise line is taking a fresh look at cruising. From no kids being allowed on the ship to scrapping buffets completely to including all of its restaurants in the cruise fare (no extra charges to eat!), Virgin is doing things differently from the cruise lines of old.

Its first ship, Scarlet Lady, is set to sail from Miami in 2020. Subsequent ships (three more in total) will arrive to the market each year thereafter. One thing we didn’t know until now is when bookings would be available for the first cruises.

Virgin just announced that bookings are open February 14, 2019 to the general public and February 5 for those with pre-sale deposits. The pre-sale deposits were $500 and closed to new bookings on Valentine’s Day of 2018. That was earlier than planned, due to high demand. In other words, rides on the first cruises appear to be a hot ticket.

A schedule and routes for the new ship is not yet known, although the cruise line has announced trips to Havana.

In addition to opening up bookings, the cruise line also announced a plan to build a 100,000 square foot terminal at PortMiami. The bold design will feature a “palm grove” design with a roof resembling a palm tree grove. In addition, lush landscaping will be utilized to provide a “plaza-like feel” according the Virgin.

It appears the terminal will be on the far western edge of Port Miami, giving views of the skyline and causeway to passengers in the terminal or on the ship.
