Report: Royal Caribbean Crew Member Arrested After Allegedly Setting Up Camera in Guest Cabin

In a disturbing story, several news stations report that a Royal Caribbean crew member has been arrested for allegedly setting up a hidden camera in a cabin bathroom to secretly record passengers.

The incident took place aboard Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas, shown here docked in Cozumel.

The crew member, who worked as a stateroom attendant, was arrested on March 3 by port authorities after a camera was discovered in a cabin. He is currently shown as being an inmate in Broward County. Online arrest records show six charges of “video voyeurism.” He is also said to face charges related to child pornography in federal court.

According to the reports, the crew member worked aboard Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas. Local10.com says that a woman and her two daughters were staying in a cabin and found a camera “affixed to the counter underneath the sink.” The passengers then alerted the ship’s staff and security officers on the ship responded.

The stateroom attendant was detained and his electronics, including several storage devices were found to contain “numerous videos of naked females undressing.” NBC News reports that one video even showed the man installing the camera in a guest’s bathroom.

Allegedly, the crew member admitted to taping in guest bathrooms and told investigators that he had been placing these cameras since he started working aboard Symphony of the Seas in December 2023.

In addition, the man is also said to have admitted to entering guest rooms when they were showering, hiding under the bed and recording them with his phone.

This isn’t the first time there have been issues with hidden cameras on Royal Caribbean ships. Last year, a man was arrested after a camera was discovered hidden in a bathroom aboard Harmony of the Seas. In that instance, the camera was discovered and found to have footage of more than 150 people, including minors.

In a statement on this latest incident, Royal Caribbean told NBC the following:

“We have zero tolerance for this unacceptable behavior. We immediately reported this to law enforcement and terminated the crew member, and we will continue to fully cooperate with authorities.”
